11.27.05 : Shaw Shows Why They're At the Top Of The Table

The undefeated Shaw Rangers and manger Mike Keller made the trip to The Crematorium Sunday to take on the Flames. The Rangers came into the match with a perfect 5-0 record. When the match was over the fans of O'Fallon went home knowing just why Shaw sits atop the SLSL standings recording a 2-0 win over the Flames.

Shaw played a patient, ball-posession style in the opening minutes, but a giveaway just inside their own shooting line gave the Flames their best opportunity in the 6th minute. An over-excited shot whistled just wide of the far post. "It was an uncharacteristic giveaway by their defence and we rushed the shot." Flames manager Jeff Drake said after the match.

Shaw regrouped themselves and came right back down the pitch and opened the scoring in the 8th minute firing a shot from the right wing beating the Flames keeper to the far post. 2 minutes late the Rangers kept the pressure on and made the score 2-0 on a similar goal from the right wing. "We must have had too much Thanksgiving turkey this weekend." said Drake. "Our guys looked tired at certain times in the match. Maybe it was the tryptophan? In all seriousness, Mike proved today why he's got the best side in the league."

The Flames, now winless in their last 4 matches, will head out on the road next weekend and attempt to get back in the win column with a Saturday doubleheader with fellow newcomers the Crystal City Palace Eagles and the South City Saints.
