3.5.06 : Flames Get Victory In Home Finale Against Saints

Sunday the O'Fallon Flames played their final home match of the season at The Crematorium as they hosted Bob Hagel and his South City Saints. After last weeks disappointing result against the Central West End the Flames were looking to get back on the winning track as the SLSL season winds down.

The Flames didn't have to wait long before they got things rolling. Just 4 minutes in to the match they quickly brought the ball down the right wing and fired a shot beating the Saints keeper to the near post for a 1-0 lead. Then in the 9th minute the Flames took advantage of a miscue behind the South City defensive line and fired a one-timer past the Saints keeper to double the lead. Just 2 minutes later O'Fallon found an opening in the center of the Saints defense and after a long touch-up from the Flames right back, fired a shot over the South City keeper and off the crossbar for a 3-0 lead. Then just before the end of the half in the 14th minute, O'Fallon made it 4-0 on a shot from the left wing on a shot that seemed to fool the Saints keeper and rolled just under his outstreched arms (well, they're always outstreched). With the match seemingly in hand, O'Fallon concentrated on preserving the clean sheet and played solid defense in the second half and the match ended with a 4-0 Flames victory.

"We scored some fine goals today and played a high pressure offensive style." Flames manager Jeff Drake said after the match. "But I was most proud of the way we played patient defense today." he added. "The Saints have built a reputation this season for playing a smart, tactical defensive game. We wanted to do the same."

With today's victory, the O'Fallon Flames finished their 2005-2006 home schedule with a record of 6-3-1 at The Crematorium.
